W. Rex Woods, age 85 of Belleville, Kansas departed this life Monday, March 31, 2014 while a resident at Belleville Health Care Center. He was born to Albert Edward and Helen Rachel (Pardee) Woods on September 3, 1928 at Lebanon, Nebraska. Rex was the father of three children from a previous marriage to Lois Maxine Luckey; Rodney, Pamela and Terri. Later in life he married Pat Woods (Crazy Patty) on June 21, 1980. Rex attended school in Bird City, Kansas through eighth grade, and then graduated from Beloit High School. He graduated from Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas on June 5, 1950 with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting. Rex was a walk on player for the Kansas University Jayhawk basketball team and was very proud that he was able to play with Harold England. Rex became a member of the University United Methodist Church September 3, 1964 and served as the President for the Council Ministries. He also served as a Sunday School Teacher. Rex was a founding partner in Woods and Durham CPA’s and worked as a C.P.A. (certified pain in the ass—according to family) for over 60 years. His interests include K.U. Basketball, watching all types of sports, going to their cabin at Lovewell Lake, and attending children’s sporting activities and events. Rex also took great pride in being part Cherokee Indian, as he was commonly referred to as “Chief Sitting Bull” by his family. Rex was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Pamela Nowak; wife Pat Woods; brother Raymond, sister Pauline Kail, brother Pardee, sister Martha Johnson, sister Murrel Pierce, twin brother Max, and brother Sam. He will be forever remembered by his brothers Marion and wife Mary, Methodist missionary in Costa Rica and Jack and wife Lois, Los Angeles, CA.; son Rodney and wife Sue, Belleville, KS and their children Ryan & Hillary Woods; daughter Terri Melby and husband Steve, Mankato, KS and their children Bethany (Clay) Cass, Ericka & Aaron Melby; son-in-law David Nowak, Salina and children Chrissy Nowak and Kelle (Bob) Hull; great grandchildren Jace, Torah and Tyler Hull; many nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law James and Linda Melton, Belleville and Reg and Cindy Bergstrom, Clyde; other relatives and a host of friends. Rex will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him! Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!!

Funeral services will be held 10:30am Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, Kansas with Pastor Emily Meckley officiating.  Burial will be in the Belleville City Cemetery. Memorials to the Golden Belle Haven, Belleville High Banks Race Track, Methodist Church, or Ministerial Alliance.  Family will be greeting family and friends on Friday, April 4 th from 7pm to 9pm at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas
