Rural Cuba, Kansas

Victor O. Havel, Jr., 72, of Fairbury, Nebraska and formerly of Cuba, Kansas passed from this life Tuesday, January 15, 2013 in Russellville, Arkansas at the home of his daughter Jackie after a long courageous fight against cancer. Victor was born September 12, 1940 in Jefferson, Kansas, the son of Victor O. and Helen (Kasl) Havel of Cuba, Kansas. He attended and graduated from Cuba High School with the Class of 1958. Victor was of the Christian faith and served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged as Airman 1 st Class. While stationed at Moffett Airfield in California, he met Joanna Wenske, his future wife. They were married and from this union five children were born. He lived in Colorado and Alaska. While living in Alaska he married Carrie Melville and they had two children. Throughout his life, Victor worked in the oil fields, was a meat cutter, and did home repairs and painting. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, playing cards, and driving out to the pond at Crystal Springs to watch the ducks. He enjoyed his family, especially spending time with his brother Gene. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Clair (Short) Havel; sister and brother-in-law Marilyn (Havel) and Arthur Goppert; and grandson Dale Ferguson. Victor will be forever remembered by his sons; Craig & Karrie Havel, Colorado, Raymond Havel, Puerto Rico, Jeffery Havel, Alaska; daughters, Deborah & Eric Ferguson, Louisiana, Victoria Havel, Montana, Rebecca Vyhnalek, Colorado, and Jaclyn & Nathaniel Guthrie, Arkansas; brother Gene & Sharil Havel and sister Dorothy & Dale Vanous all of Cuba. He leaves a legacy of seven grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Graveside inurnment services will be held 2:00pm Saturday, May 18, 2013 at National Bohemian Cemetery #13, rural Cuba, Kansas. Following the service there will be a time of refreshments at the Cuba Community Center for family and friends. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville is in charge of these local arrangements.
