Twila Louise Bowersox, daughter of Arthur and Anna (Hanzlicek) Brzon, was born March 15, 1929 on the family farm in Rose Creek Township near Belleville, Kansas. She passed from this life Monday, August 16, 2010 at the Harry Hynes Hospice Center in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 81 years. She was baptized in the United Presbyterian Church, Belleville in April 1965 and was a faithful member through our her life serving as Ordained Elder, Board of Trustees and the Session, Sunday School Teacher, the choir, hand chimes and bells, memorial committee, Presbyterian women, and various committees in the Presbytery of Northern Kansas. Twila attended Star rural school and graduated from Belleville High School with the Class of 1946. She attended Kansas State University and did course work through the University of Utah. On May 19, 1947 she was united in marriage to Winston LaVon Bowersox at the Methodist parsonage in Beloit, Kansas. To this union were born four children: Carol, Maurice, Curtis, and Bruce. Twila was Belleville Public Library Director for 25 years. She was a member of the Kansas Library Association, President of the Library Section, member of the Belleville Library Board and Friends of the Belleville Library. Her service to her community included being a 4-H member in her younger years, 4-H leader for more than 25 years, serving on the Republic County Extension committee, member of the Republic County Historical Society holding various offices, Chairperson of the Republic County Bicentennial, Belleville Chamber of Commerce Education committee, charter member of the Church People Concerned Board, Inc., volunteered for Meals on Wheels delivery, charter member of the Belleville After School Program, and the Republic County Resource Council. Twila belonged to the Beta Delphian study club and the P.E.O. where she held various offices. Twila enjoyed reading, baking (especially breads), gardening, decorating, and crafting. She was an accomplished seamstress sewing clothes for herself and for the children when they were younger. Twila was preceded in death by her parents; husband LaVon in 2005; her son Bruce in 2004; brother Loren Brzon in 1997 and an infant sister. She will be forever remembered by her children Carol Coash and Ronald Walker of Wichita, Kansas, Maurice Bowersox and wife Gloria, Olathe, Kansas, and Curtis Bowersox and wife Deborah of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren Erin (Bowersox) Miller, Angi (Bowersox) Landis, Jordan and Megan Bowersox, and Emilee (Bowersox) Ortiz; great grandchildren Noah and Levi Miller, and Ethan Landis; her brothers George (Una) Brzon, Prairie Village, Kansas and Kenneth (Joan) Brzon, Belleville, Kansas; many other relatives and a community of friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30am Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Church, Belleville, Kansas with the Reverends Denise Group and Susan Herman officiating. Inurnment will follow in Union Valley Cemetery, rural Belleville. Memorials may be made to the Belleville After School Program or Belleville Public Library.
