Ruth Elaine Rizek, daughter of Nitus and Clara (Mallory) Sandell, was born July 8, 1936 in rural Scandia, Kansas, the youngest of six children. She passed from this life Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Health Care Center, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 81 years. Ruth attended grade school in rural Scandia and graduated from Scandia High School in 1954 as Valedictorian of her class. She worked for ten years as a teller in the People’s National Bank and Munden State Bank. Later, she worked as a para educator for the Learning Center of North Central Kansas in the Belleville schools for 23 years. She also worked four years at the Feathered Nest in Belleville. Ruth was united in marriage to Donald L. Rizek in Belleville, Kansas on November 15, 1958 and to this union two daughters were born, Debra and Karen. Ruth was active in St. George’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was also a member of the Munden EHU and a project and community leader for the Munden 4-H club. Ruth enjoyed working in her yard, mowing around the farm, making wonderful meals for her family and caring for her grandchildren, Lauren, Colin and Christian. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Rex, Harlan, Charles (Pat), and Waldron (Pete); sister Adelene; and son-in-law Gary Cornelius. She will be forever remembered by her devoted husband, Donald of their home; daughters Debra Tipton and husband Mark, Munden, Kansas and Karen Cornelius also Munden; grandchildren Lauren (Max) Moberly, Hutchinson, Kansas, Colin Tipton, Grimes, Iowa, and Christian Tipton, Salina, Kansas; a great grandchild Cooper Moberly; sister-in-law Dorothy Sandell; as well as many other relatives, neighbors, and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00am Saturday, February 17, 2018 at St. Edward Catholic Church, Belleville, Kansas with Fathers David Metz and Henry Baxa officiating. Burial will be in St. George Cemetery rural Munden, Kansas. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00pm to 7:00pm with a Rosary/Vigil service at 7:00pm at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville. Memorials are suggested to The Family’s Choice to be designated at a later time.
