Ronald E. Sothers, son of Elder and Juvernia (Garman) Sothers, was born October 26, 1938 at the family home outside of
Courtland
,
Kansas
. He graduated from
Courtland
High School
in 1956. Ron served in the National Guard from 1959 to 1964. He was united in marriage to Maudie F. Hallack on September 23, 1961 and to this union four children were born: Kim, Becky, Mitch, and Ronnie "Matt". Ron dedicated his life to farming with his father and brothers near
Courtland
,
Kansas
. He treasured time with his family, especially attending sporting and other events of his children and grandchildren. Ron was a very hard worker and took pleasure in teaching that work ethic to his children and grandchildren, but always had an ornery way of making it fun for everyone. After losing Maudie to cancer on January 3, 1996, Ron married Beverly Sothers on July 5, 1997. With this union, his family grew to include step-children Jeff, Kaylene, and Karen. After a difficult time of illness, Ron died Friday, December 31, 2010 at
Mt.
Joseph

Village
in
Concordia
,
Kansas
at the age of 72 years. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Maudie, and his brother Ralph "Ole" Sothers. He will be forever remembered by his wife Beverly, daughters Kim Wilson, Salinas, California, Becky Odell and husband Brad, Courtland, Kansas; sons Mitch Sothers, Topeka, Kansas and Ronnie "Matt" Sothers and wife Jennifer, Clyde, Kansas; step-children Jeff Sothers and wife Brenda, and Kaylene Clark and husband Jack of Courtland, Kansas, Karen Sothers, San Diego, California; brothers Gerald Sothers and wife Ida May and Dean Sothers and wife Anita of Courtland, Kansas, and Maurice Sothers and wife Marilyn, Scandia, Kansas; sister Judy Nylund and husband Johnny, Scandia, Kansas; grandchildren Trenton Jones, Wes Clark, Thayne Clark, Cory Odell and wife Geneva, Tyler Clark, Kade Odell, Drew Sothers, Kayce Clark, Kira Odell, Ty Sothers, Mackenzie Sothers, Tiana Sothers, Rylie Knox, and Aiden Sothers; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the

Church

Kansas
. Burial was in the
Courtland
Cemetery
. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date by the family. Contributions can be sent to Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home,
