On February 8, 2022, in Belleville, Kansas, Robert (Bob) Dean Adee, age 88, peacefully joined his father and mother, Vernon & Beulah Mae (Layher) Adee; wife, Evelyn (Hilsop) Adee; brother, Stanley Adee; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Robert (Bob) Brown; brother-in-law, Barton Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Kamryn Aufdengarten and Carson Adee.
Bob was born July 24, 1933, in Arnold, NE; he was the eldest of five children (Donna Brown, Richard Adee, Stanley Adee, and Vernamae Johnson). The family moved to Haddam, KS, in 1949, where he graduated high school in 1951. Following this, he obtained his Associates Degree from Fairbury Junior College. He married Peggy Rychtarik-Rogers in 1953, and to the union were born seven children: Joan (Larry) Pape of Washington, KS; June Stafford of Salida, CO; Jack (Kathy) Adee of Haddam, KS; Roberta Verhoek of Danbury, TX; Rex (Robin) Adee of Arcadia, OK; Roger Adee of Republic, KS; and Herb (Elizabeth) Adee of Lake Lotawana, MO. They later divorced and in 1977, he married Evelyn Hislop. Through this marriage he gained a stepson, Jarvis (Butch) Renfro of Bruce, SD.
Out of high school, Bob worked for the Belleville, KS newspaper; the State of Kansas; an auto body shop; operated his own beekeeping business; then until retiring in 2015, worked for his brother, Richard, in Bruce, SD, driving semi-tractor trailers. He enjoyed trips to the lake and camping with his family, bowling on a league in Washington, KS, and COFFEE(!). Bob also enjoyed racing cars and was an accomplished pilot.
He will be greatly missed by his brother, Richard (Alice) Adee of Bruce, SD, and sister, Vernamae Johnson of Chicago, IL; his children; grandchildren: Diana (Brian) Aufdengarten, Melissa Pape, Robert Pape, Sarah (Greg) Isaacson, Josh (Christina) Stafford, Jack (Tara) Adee Jr., Amanda (Musab) Sufi, Cassandra (Michael) Smith, Rochelle (Victor) Lazo, Rebekah Verhoek, Ryan (Samantha) Adee, Regan (Chris) McWhirter, Rhame (Meghan) Adee, Tabitha (David) Dunn, Robert K. Adee, Miranda (Anthony) Weddington, Jordan Adee, and Alexandria Adee; thirty great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Brantford Covenant Cemetery. A reception to honor Bob’s life will be held following the graveside service, location to be announced.
Any monetary memorials will be donated to American Honey Producers Association to benefit honey bee research, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
