Raymond Richardson

Raymond Eugene “Gene” Richardson, 85, Belleville, passed away Saturday, June 20 th , 2015, at Republic County Long Term Care. Gene was born on August 22, 1929, in Hebron, Nebraska, the son of Harley and Dorothy Richardson.  He enlisted in the US Army on May 11 th , 1948 and was honorably discharged as a Master Sargent on May 10 th , 1954.  He served in the Korean conflict and received the Bronze Star Medal on August 30 th 1951 and awarded the Korean Service Medal on March 28 th , 1952.  Gene married Grace Woodman on November 14 th , 1954 in Hebron, Nebraska.  She survives. Gene retired after 45 years of being a butcher and working for Bogarts/Food Mart in Belleville, Kansas.  In retirement Gene enjoyed gardening, birds, and working outside in his yard and around his house.  In 2012 Gene was able to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. with fellow Korean and World War II veterans.  The trip was an experience he treasured and was very proud of.  He was able to meet and talk with fellow Korean veterans and World War II veterans, tour the memorials and spend time at the Korean War Memorial.   Gene is survived by his wife Grace of the home; one son, Charles (Donna) Richardson of Glenwood, Iowa; 3 daughters, Peggy (Randy) Patton of Meriden, Ks., Julie Richardson of Belleville, and Lisa Lewis of King City, Oregon.  He also is survived by 5 grandchildren; Jeff, Justin and Jordan Patton and Abbey and Ian Lewis and 2 great-grandchildren; Joslyn and Greyson Patton.  He is also survived by 2 sisters; Carolyn Baldwin in Ada, IA and Janet Friend in Sioux City, IA, 5 brothers; Bob of Brighton, CO, Don and John in Belleville, Gary in Belvidere, NE. and Willie in North Platte, NE. Tibbetts-Fisher Funeral Home, Belleville,  is in charge of all arrangements. No funeral services will be held.  A private celebration of Gene’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Meadowlark Hospice, 709 Liberty, Clay Center, Kansas 67432, or to the Jackson Heights Honor Flight Program, Jackson Heights High School, 12719 266 th Rd., Holton, Ks. 66436.
