Rachel Lauritzen

Rachel Susan Lauritzen was born November 5, 1915 on a farm near Randall to Christian and Addie (Hart) Hanson. She passed from this life on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Country Place in Scandia, KS at the age of 100 years. Rachel graduated from Randall High School. On April 29, 1937, she married her lifelong love, Alfred Lauritzen, and together they were blessed with two children, Joyce Ann and Arthur Dennis. They lived and worked together for 61 years on their farm north of Courtland, KS. Rachel was a true partner in the farming business, working side by side with Alfred to make it a success. Rachel loved playing cards with friends and family, caring for the cattle and land, canning and preserving foods, square dancing, traveling, quilting, and caring for her family. She loved her family and showed that love every day. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred on October 30, 1998, brothers Chester, Eugene and Arthur Hanson, and granddaughter Kyla Anne Lauritzen. She is survived by daughter Joyce (Harvey) Greer of Parkville, MO, and son Dennis (Lorna) Lauritzen of Courtland, KS, grandsons Thad (Leanne) Lauritzen of Kansas City and Jim (Mandy) Greer of Lexington Park, MD, granddaughters Kori (Jeff) Field of Republic, KS, Megan Lauritzen of Salina, KS, Katey Field of Shawnee, KS, and Jennifer (Paul) Stewart of Salina, KS. She was also blessed with 14 surviving great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother Raymond of Schuyler, NE, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 at 11:00am at the United Methodist Church in Courtland with burial at Rosemound Cemetery in Hardy, NE. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with the family present from 6-8pm, and also visitation on Friday from 9:00am to 8:00pm. Memorials to Pike Valley School Foundation. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home assisted the Lauritzen family with these arrangements.
