Phyllis Jean Francis, daughter of Roy M. and Laverna K. (Sauer) Ferguson, was born September 27, 1932 in Belleville, Kansas. Phyllis attended Belleville public schools and graduated from High School with the Class of 1950. In October of 1950 she was united in marriage to Richard Francis and to this union two children, Richard, Jr. and Julie, were born. Phyllis and family lived in the Wichita area for 40 years. They returned to Belleville many years ago and bought the Plaza Motel which they operated along with the Plaza Travel Agency for 12 years before retiring. Phyllis loved enjoyed traveling and loved their many trips across this country and even abroad. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; son Richard in 2009 and daughter Julie in 2018; and her brother Micky Ferguson. She is survived by her husband of nearly 69 years, Dick Francis, Belleville; grandson Jason Francis and wife Amy and their son Eric, Kingman, Kansas and granddaughter Hope Ortiz and her daughter Miranda, Cheney, Kansas; other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 4, 2019 at the United Presbyterian Church, Belleville, Kansas with The Reverend Robert Frasier officiating. Burial was in Belleville City Cemetery. Memorials in her honor may be made to the Belleville Presbyterian Church. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville was in charge of these arrangements.
