Norma Jean Brown, daughter of Floyd E. and Nora (Carlson) Welch, was born September 7, 1932 at Haddam, Kansas. She passed from this life Friday, December 17, 2010, at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 78 years, 3 months, and 10 days. Norma received her education at Haddam public schools and graduated from Haddam Rural High School in 1950. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Chevrolet garage in Topeka and for Melton's Chevrolet in Belleville. She was also an independent Stanley Home Products dealer for over 50 years. Norma was united in marriage to Elmer Brown in 1953. To this union four children were born: Barbara Jean, Robert Dean, Brenda Sue, and Bruce Allan. She was a lifetime resident of Cuba, Kansas. She enjoyed camping with the Good Sams, going to various flea markets, and being with the Red Hat Ladies. Norma was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. She will be forever remembered by her husband Elmer of their home; children Barbara Racette and husband Terry, Clyde, Kansas, Robert Brown and wife Rebecca, Belleville, Kansas, Brenda Thomas and husband Russell, Kemp, Texas, and Bruce Brown and wife Ronda, Topeka, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Lucas and Becky Racette, Carrie and Doug Stensaas, Kendra and Shannon Short, Austin Brown, Sarah and Katie Thomas, Rachel, Ella, and Claire Brown; two great grandchildren Colton and Mackenzie Racette; two brothers J.W. Welch, Salina, Kansas and Robert Welch, Junction City, Kansas; other relatives and a community of friends. Funeral services were held Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Brantford Covenant Church with Pastor Russell Sizemore officiating. Burial was in Kopsa Cemetery, rural Cuba, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Brantford Church, Cuba Presbyterian Church or the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation.
