Mildred Lillian Freeman, daughter of Charles and Mabel (Bauer) Hand, was born August 31, 1914 at
Ellsworth
,
Kansas
. She passed from this life Monday, April 26, 2010 at
Belleville
,
Kansas
at the age of 95 years. Mildred had a variety of life experiences during her long life. After graduating from
Ellsworth
High School
in 1926, she attended
Kansas
Wesleyan
University
and received her normal school training in teacher education. From there Mildred taught several years in rural Ellsworth. She was united in marriage to Robert R. Freeman on April 30, 1936 and to this union three sons were born. After moving to
Belleville
, Mildred and her husband Robert co-owned and managed the Dairy Sweet located on the west side of town during the late 1950s. Mildred later restarted her teaching career by substitute teaching at Belleville Jr. High. She then joined the secretarial forces at
Belleville
High School
and later the Board of Education for USD 427. Mildred was very active in the
First
Baptist
Church
in
Belleville
and the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed gardening and quilting for which she won numerous awards. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Robert in 1991. She will be forever remembered by her sons; Ross Freeman, Topeka, Kansas, Gene Freeman, Cibolo, Texas, and Jack Freeman, Ulysses, Kansas; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and her brother Donald Hand, Visula, California; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the
First
Baptist
Church
,
Belleville
with Pastor John Lewis officiating. Burial was in the
Belleville
City
Cemetery
. Memorials were for the American Cancer Society.
