Mary Harris

Mary Lucille Harris, age 90 of Courtland, Kansas, died Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas. She was born November 2, 1924 on a farm northwest of Studley, Kansas to Rachel (Stithem) and Henry Niblock. Mary married Sylvan Harris on May 24, 1942 at Moreland, Kansas and they moved to Wichita, Kansas. In 1946 Mary and Sylvan moved to Plainville, Kansas where she worked at the hospital and then the nursing home. They moved again in 1967 to Courtland, Kansas. She began cooking at the local school and worked there until retiring. Mary loved taking care of the grandkids and spoiling them for their parents. Her favorite pastimes besides her grandchildren were cooking, playing cards, dancing and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Sylvan in 2011; sisters Elsie and Alice; and one brother Junior. Mary will be forever remembered by her sons Dennis (Dot) Harris, Minneapolis, Kansas, Floyd (Norma) Harris, Downs, Kansas and Larry (Lisa) Harris, Solomon, Kansas; daughter Peggy (Dale) Crumb, Dodge City, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; sister Marge (Duane) Dechant, Kansas City, Kansas; brother Don (Mary) Niblock, Hoxie, Kansas; other relatives and a community of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, Courtland, Kansas with Pastor Kathy Aeillo officiating. Burial was in the Courtland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Courtland Methodist Church. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas assisted the Harris family with these arrangements.
