Marcy Chaloupka

April 18, 1927 — December 27, 2018

Marcy Mae Thomasson Chaloupka, 91, daughter of Russell Wells and Thelma A. (Purdie) Thomasson, was born April 18, 1927, in Lake Wales, Florida. She died on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas.

At the urging of family in Kansas and Nebraska, the Thomasson family later moved to Belleville, Kansas. Marcy Mae attended Belleville schools from kindergarten through high school graduating from Belleville High School in 1945. Upon graduation, she attended Knox College in Galesburg IL for a semester, then transferred to Kansas State College in Manhattan.  It is there she met Glen G. Chaloupka in April of 1946.  Marcy Mae asked Glen out on their first date, which was her spring formal, and they were married five months later on September 15th. To this union two children were born: Barbara Joyce and Marcy Elizabeth.

A year after their marriage they moved to Belleville where Glen was an engineer for the Kanas Highway Department.  In 1954, they purchased the Narka Grain Company and worked together – Glen as manager, Marcy Mae as bookkeeper.  Ten years later, the family moved to Munden where Glen was employed at the Munden State Bank and Marcy Mae continued as a homemaker and worked at various bookkeeping positions in Republic County including the Republic County clerk’s office in Belleville and Walthers Oil Company in Cuba.

Music was always a special part of Marcy Mae’s life.  She directed church choirs in Narka, Munden and Belleville, performed with area choirs, and sang solos at many, many weddings and funerals.  Other interests/hobbies included knitting, sewing and cross stitching.

Marcy Mae was community minded and eagerly participated wherever they lived.  Over the years she was always active in her church, was a 4-H sewing leader, taught various ages in Sunday school, and served as BHS Alumni president.  She was also very involved in Eastern Star holding many offices.  After moving to Belleville in August of 2000, Marcy Mae became active at the Golden Bell Haven Senior Center and served treats weekly to the quilting ladies at the United Presbyterian Church in Belleville where she was an elder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1999, an infant sister, Thelma Joyce, and a brother Jack Russell.
