Leona Ferguson

Leona Clara Ferguson, 88, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014 in Fort Collins, Colorado.  Leona and her twin brother Leo were born March 21, 1926 to Thomas and Clara Zukowske.  Leo passed away when he was six months old.  Leona was one of five children who grew up on the family farm in Belleville, Kansas.  She attended Willowdale Country School and later graduated from Belleville High School in 1944.  She worked for Dr. C. C. Arnett as a secretary for two years.  Leona was united in marriage to Fenton  F. "Mickey" Ferguson on March 4, 1946 in Belleville.  She was  a devoted homemaker for her husband and three children. When Mickey acquired the family business, Ferguson Service, she worked as the bookkeeper until their retirement in 1999.  Leona was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church, which her father, Thomas, helped build. She was  an active member and served as president of  St. Edward's  Alter Society.  Leona was a member of  PEO, Chapter BM, Stardust Study Club,  Coke Club, Couples Bridge Club, the Ladies Golf Association and for many years attended the Women's Morning Coffee Club. Leona was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Mickey; her parents, Thomas and Clara Zukowske; brothers, Ralph, Leo and Richard Zukowske; sisters, Welmena Zukowske (infant)  and Frances Sterba.  She is survived by her sons, Tom (Cathy) Ferguson, Michael (Laurie) Ferguson; daughter, Connie (Ron Giles); her seven grandchildren who were the joy of her life, Stacy (Jeff) Shelton, Janella (Dan) Dewitt; Shana Grow; Heather (James) Pipkin, Brandon Ferguson; Madison Ferguson and Matthew Ferguson; eleven great-grandchildren,  Christopher, Jessica, Cyle, Jenna, Caitlyn, Ashton, Colton, Jackson,  Riley, Emerson and Ainsley; nieces, nephews and a community of friends.  A visitation will be held Friday, November 7, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Tibbetts-Fisher Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Belleville, Kansas with Father Brian Lager officiating.  Interment will take place in the Belleville Cemetery.
