. Raised in
Salina
, Jeaane graduated from
Salina
High School
in 1940. She began attending
Kansas
State
University
where she met Robert E. Arbuthnot. They were married on May 31, 1942. In 1944 Jeaane and Robert moved to Liberal,
Kansas
while he was stationed their as a part of the Army Air Corps. Following his discharge, they farmed in the Liberal area for a few years until they moved back to Haddam in 1953. Although she had not completed her degree at KSU, Jeaane had received her teaching certificate and began her teaching career in 1957 at
Munden
,
Kansas
. She returned to
Kansas
State
and completed her course work and received her degree in Education in 1963. For 33 years, Jeaane taught elementary education in the Munden, Morrowville, and Haddam public schools. She retired in 1990. Throughout her life, Jeaane enjoyed devoting her time to her community whether as a 4-H leader,
Haddam
City
librarian, or playing organ for the services of the Methodist
church
of
Haddam
. She was also a member of KSU Delta Kappa Gamma and the Washington County Teachers Organization serving as President at one time. She enjoyed her music, reading, knitting, and being a loving mother and grandmother. Jeaane was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert in October 1988. She will be forever remembered by her children, Rod Arbuthnot and wife Barbara of Mahaska, Kansas and Cindy Brown and husband Jay of Junction City, Kansas; her grandchildren Rob & Natalie Arbuthnot, Jason & Lori Brown, and Justin Brown; her great grandchildren Cody Brown, Brett & Taylor Vogt; other relatives, many former students, and a host of friends.
Graveside and inurnment services will be held 2:00pm Friday, April 2, 2010 at the
Haddam
City
