James Lee Todd, son of John and Opal (Howe) Todd, was born July 24, 1945 at Colby, Kansas. He departed this life Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at his home in Courtland, Kansas. He was 70 years of age. Jim graduated from Courtland High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. in 1964 and proudly served his country until September 1968. He attained the rank of Sargent and served in the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his bravery. Following his discharge, Jim drove truck for various construction projects. After he retired from driving truck, he lived in Courtland and was active in many community projects. For many years he was the manager of the Courtland Meals on Wheels program. Jim was a member of the Disabled Veterans and an active member of the American Legion of Scandia. He was a regular member of the Honor Guard for veterans and the annual Memorial Day ceremonies. Jim was preceded in death by his father John and brothers Rex and Gene and Junior. He will be forever remembered by his mother Opal Todd; sons Jeff, Justin and James B. Todd; sisters Martha Howe, Rita Clayton, and Vickie Smith; brothers Harley, Walter and Wayne Todd and John Cole; other relatives and a community of friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Covenant Church, Courtland, Kansas. Interment was in the Courtland Cemetery with Military Rites by the Marine Corps Honor Guard and Scandia American Legion Post No. 193. Memorials may be made in Jim’s honor to the Scandia Legion. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas was in charge of these arrangements.
