Helen A. (Lewis) Nord was born on February 10, 1928, to Walter and Clara Belle (Stanton) Lewis, and passed away on July 2, 2019. Helen was born in Washington, Kansas, and graduated from Washington Rural High School.
Following high school, Helen was employed at Belleville Hospital, when she and two of her friends decided to go see the world, and ended up in Denver, Colorado. Helen was employed at Mercy Hospital in Denver, and while in Denver, she married Dale Nord, and to this union Kathy and Michael were born. Dale passed away, and she married C. Stephens, and to this union, James was born. After 11 years, she moved back to Kansas with her children, and worked at Kravemore 36 and Kravemore 81. Later, she married Loren Morley, and to this union, Beverly and Daniel were born. Helen divorced and moved to Washington, Kansas. She was employed at The Homestead for 9 years, starting in Housekeeping, acquiring her LPN License in 1972, and becoming Administrator until 1976.
She moved to Topeka with her soulmate Delmar Shaffer. In Topeka, she was employed at KNI until they moved to Salina in 1985. In brief, she was employed at the nursing homes and SRS. After retirement, she volunteered for the Red Cross, at the K-State-Salina College, and various businesses. After being soulmates for 28 years, Delmar and Helen were married in May of 2004.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delmar, her son Michael, her brothers Bob and Billy, her sisters Bonnie, Peggy and Sue Wayne; daughter-in-law Denise Kieffer, and her step grandson Marshall Gould.
Survivors are Kathleen (Jerry) Martin, James Stephens, Beverly Fees (Landy Hay), Daniel (Dawn) Morley; step-children Curt (Debbie) Shaffer, Clayton “PeeWee” Shaffer, Carolyn (Dennis) Fischer, Connie (Doug) Gould, Charles “Chuckie” (Karen) Shaffer, Carla Garvin. Her brother Jimmie (Mitzie) Lewis and sister-in-law Jean Hogan. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 5, 2019, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home. Helen's wishes were those attending her service to dress in casual attire. Private family inurnment will occur at a later date at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Hanover, Kansas.
Memorials are requested to the family’s choice, to be designated at a later date. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
