Gerald G. “Jere” Gieber, son of Bernard and Alvena Gieber, was born Oct. 6, 1935, in Strawberry, Kansas. Jere was the oldest of four children. His early years were spent enjoying country life and attending school in Strawberry and Clara, Kansas.
In 1945, his family moved to Topeka, Kansas, where he attended speech therapy classes. Missing country living, his family returned to the family farm. In 1947, the family again moved to a farm south of Belleville, where he attended school at Summit Point School District. His love of tilling the land, breaking horses, caring for cattle, sheep and hogs was his life.
Jere was drafted into the Kansas National Guard in 1955, and was a member of the Belleville unit. He was also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus #2609 of Belleville, Munden & Cuba.
Jere passed away November 11, 2022, at the Belleville Healthcare and Rehab, at the age of 87.
Preceding him in death are his parents, infant brother Gregory, and brother James. He is survived by his brother Maurice and his wife Barb of Belleville, sister in law Nancy, many nieces and nephews, step nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He will forever hold in his heart the love of his care takers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, November 14, 2022, at 10:30 am, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Belleville, burial will be at the Belleville City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 13th, from 1 pm – 8pm, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home.
Rosary / Vigil Services will be Sunday evening at 6 pm, at the funeral home. The family will greet friends following the rosary services.
Memorials are requested to the Republic County Hospital, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
