Elizabeth Siebert Tibbetts died on May 29, 2020, at the age of 99. She was born December 9, 1920, in Marion, Kansas, the daughter of Walter & Eva (Bryan) Siebert. She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Tibbetts, parents Walter and Eva Siebert, and her brother Paul Siebert. She graduated from Marion High School in 1938 and went on to achieve her teaching certificate from Emporia State. She taught school in Alune, Kansas. She married Jim Tibbetts on September 19, 1942, and they celebrated 70 years of married life. They moved to Belleville, Kansas, in 1947.
Survivors include her daughter Paula Simms (Douglas) of Belleville, son James C. Tibbetts (Beverly) of Lansing, Kansas, grandchildren Christine Conn (Michael), Snoqualmie, WA, James K. Simms (Anne), Daykin, NE, Julia Werthman (Jeffrey), Easton, KS, Jill Luse (Brian), Olathe, KS, seven great-grandchildren, Spencer and Libby Conn, Tucker and Riley Simms, Maddy Werthmann, and Abby and Jason Luse, sister in law Joan Tibbetts-Baker of Olathe, Kansas, nieces and nephews.
Lib was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church, Mariners and United Presbyterian Women. She taught Sunday School, and helped in many ways at the church. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood (Chapter BM) for more than 75 years, being initiated in Marion, Kansas, in 1943. She served as President of Chapter BM in 1952. Lib was also involved in the As You Like It, Shakespeare Study and Coke Clubs. She liked to golf, and was active in the Country Club Ladies Organization.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 2, 2020, from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., at the United Presbyterian Church in Belleville, with Pastor Robert Frasier officiating. Burial will follow at the Belleville City Cemetery.
Memorials are requested to the United Presbyterian Church of Belleville, or Meadowlark Hospice, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
