Donald Junior Lewellyn, son of Veda (Shotzman) and Ralph M. Lewellyn, was born December 17, 1928 in Scandia, Kansas and passed away at Republic County Hospital on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in Belleville, Kansas from heart disease at the age of 88 years. He grew up in Scandia and graduated from Scandia High School in 1949. A few months later, in 1950, Don joined the Navy and served as an Airman on the U.S.S. Antietam during the Korean War. While home on leave, he met and fell in love with his future bride and love of his life, Barbara, who was working at the Depot Café. After serving his country, Don returned home and married Barbara Carol Milner on November 13, 1954. To this union eight kids; 2 girls and 6 boys were born. Donald worked for The Rock Island Railroad, E & E Home Improvement, and The Housing Authority as a maintenance Supervisor. He retired at the age of 70. A few of his favorite things were having his family all together, dancing, fishing, pitching horseshoes, and sitting on the back porch on a warm sunny day to nap. Don was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Loretta, Jean, Virginia; his son Cory; and a grandson BJ Webb. He will be forever remembered by Barbara, his wife of 62 years; two brothers Richard of Nebraska and Raymond of North Carolina; seven children; Deb of Belleville, Randy (Ann) of Belleville, Dan (Dawn) of Boulder, CO, Curtis of Belleville, Tammy Frye of Belleville, Tim (Darlene) of Lamar, Co, and Tracy (Tara) of Omaha, NE; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Per his request, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of His Life will be at a later date. Memorials in his honor may be sent to their home in care of Barbara. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas assisted the Lewellyn family with these arrangements.
