Darrell Birrell

Darrell Andrew Birrell, son of Andrew and Lila (French) Birrell was born April 23, 1923 at Republic, Kansas.  He passed from this life Thursday, October 12, 2017 at home in Republic, Kansas at the age of 94 years.  Darrell attended and graduated from Republic High School with the class of 1941.  He married Marilynn Kay (Gunn) Birrell on April 27, 1946 at Concordia, Kansas and together they raised four children: Greg, Michal, Kim, and Laura.  He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and upon return settled on a farm in Republic and raised his beloved family. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife Marilynn; his parents; sisters Vivian Birrell and Velma Clark; brother Melvin Birrell; and grandson Eric Birrell.  He will be forever remembered by his children: son Greg Birrell and wife Joan, Republic; daughters Michal Herde and husband Darrel, Courtland; Kim Birrell, Republic; and Laura Leite and husband Pedro, Topeka; grandchildren Aaron (Misty) Birrell, Katie (Bill) Mikesell, Adrian (Amy) Phelps, Ashley Phelps, and Cassey Robertson; and thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Military Rites will be conducted at the church by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Family inurnment will be at a later date in Rosemound Cemetery, rural Hardy, Nebraska.
