Dale was born on December 13, 1934 to Orvil and Nell Mae Coonrod in Mahaska, Kansas. He attended Mahaska High School and enjoyed being part of the basketball team. He went on to study Business at Kansas State University, where he was a part of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and continued to develop his love of all sports at KSU. While there, he met Gwen Annette Gregg and they were married shortly after graduating. They started their life together in Manhattan, Kansas and had three sons while they lived there: Gregg Robert, Douglas Alan, and Scott Anthony.
Dale started his career with Sears in Manhattan, just after graduation, and enjoyed a long & successful career with them retiring in 1991. His work took the family from Manhattan, to Ft. Smith Arkansas and then to Overland Park Kansas. After Gwen’s passing, he was married to Elaine (Ellie) Fiser, of Belleville, for nine years.
Dale enjoyed golf, dancing with Marjorie, and talking about K-State sports. He was a member of the Belleville Country Club and enjoyed many mornings with his ‘Coffee Group’ there. He was community minded as evidenced by his work on the Belleville Hospital Board and willingness to help wherever he could. Dale was a friendly guy and everybody loved him. He was a kind and generous man and will be missed by all his friends and family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Orvil & Nell Mae Coonrod, his wife Gwen and his wife Ellie. He is survived by his spouse Marjorie, his brother Richard, sister Peg, his sons Gregg (Patty) Coonrod, Douglas Coonrod and Scott (Julie) Coonrod, 6 grandchildren: Zach (Kara), Becky (Levi) Dermyer, Spencer (Maddison), Sam (Jenna), Grayson, Joe (Dede), two great grandchildren: Clark & Peter Dermyer, and many beloved nieces & nephews.
