Charles B. (Bud) Hanzlick, 82, died in Belleville on Thursday, December 18, 2014.  Bud was born to Charles and Odessa (Murphy) Hanzlick in Belleville on March 20, 1932.  He attended Belleville public schools and graduated from Belleville High School in 1950.  He was united in marriage to Patricia (Pat) Carolyn Larson on January 6, 1957, and to that union were born four children – Carla, David, Charlene, and Matthew (born at rest). Following high school, Bud served in the U.S. Army in Europe patrolling the then-West German border with Czechoslovakia.  He also took the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe.  Bud spent most of his working life as a switchman on the Rock Island Railroad and subsequently on the Kyle Railroad.  In an encore career, he crafted rustic furniture from Osage Orange wood.  He and Pat sold his work across the country. Bud served on the Belleville City Council, was a past commander of his American Legion Post, and was a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bud is survived by daughters Carla Roeder of Belleville, Charlene (Mike) Smith of Danville, KS, and son, David (Janee’) of Overland Park, five grandchildren (Nathan, Jacob, and Bethany Knipp, and Margaret Hanzlick-Burton and Amelia Hanzlick), two step grandchildren (Bryce and Kathryn Smith), nephew Bob (Deanna) Hanzlick of Colby, KS, and niece, Bonnie (John) Duma of Lenexa, KS.  A celebration of Bud's life with a gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Dinner Bell Café  in downtown Belleville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Belleville Public Library, the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Association.
