Carl Robert Segerhammar was born on November 7, 1946, in Belleville, Kansas, to Carl Warren & Evelyn (Tornquist) Segerhammar. Carl grew up in Kackley, Kansas, and attended Kackley Grade School up to the 8th grade. He then attended and graduated from Courtland High School, class of 1964.
Following high school, Carl enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Following deployment to Vietnam, Carl was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. During his years in the Vietnam War, Carl worked as a teletype operator.
Carl was united in marriage to Sharon Phillips on February 8th, 1969, in Marysville, Kansas, and to this union of over 50 years, two sons were born.
Carl worked as a sheriff’s deputy in Lyons County Kansas, then a salesman for Moormon Feed Co. He also worked in the Training Department at Wolf Creek Power Plant in Burlington, Kansas. Carl and his family then traveled overseas to work for Bouygues – Blount in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This was a joint venture between a French and American company, contracted to build King Saud University. When he returned to the United States, Carl worked for Manna Pro Feed Company as an Equine Specialist covering 19 states.
Upon retirement, Carl stayed busy tending to his sheep herd in Kackley, Kansas, and farming with Lance Hedstrom. One of Carl’s many hobbies utilized his “gift of gab” and auctioneering skills to help various organizations with their charitable sales. In addition, Carl worked part time for Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home.
He was a lifelong member of the Ada Lutheran Church. Carl was also a member of the Pope’s People singing group, Courtland Masonic Lodge #211 A.F. & A.M., ISIS Shrine Temple of Salina, the Republic County Farm Bureau Association, Scandia American Legion Albert Issacson - James Larson Post #193, Marine Corp League, Kansas Sheep Association, Courtland Arts Council, and Cloud County Community College Ag Advisory Board.
Carl passed away on April 4th, 2022, at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 28 days.
He is preceded in death by his parents Carl Warren and Evelyn Segerhammar, son Kyle Warren Segerhammar in 1997 and brother Paul Warren Segerhammar.
He is survived by and will be forever remembered by his wife Sharon of Courtland, Kansas; son Todd Robert Segerhammar of Concordia, Kansas; grandson Bradley Barfield of Tennessee, grandsons Logan and Luke Barfield of Georgia, sister Ann Ward and her husband Dennis of Augusta, Kansas; brother-in-law Lonnie Phillips and his wife Carol of Marysville, Kansas; brother-in-law Gary Phillips and his wife Sharon of Marysville, Kansas; many nieces and nephews, and a community of friends.
Memorial Services will be Tuesday, April 12th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at the Ada Lutheran Church, rural Courtland, Kansas, burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may sign Carl’s book on Monday, April 11th, from 9am – 5pm, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville, Kansas.
Memorials are requested to the Courtland Arts Council or the Pike Valley Foundation, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
