Beverly Jean Freeman, daughter of Dewayne and Lucile Lindberg was born April 22, 1933 on a farm near Courtland, KS. She passed away on December 16, 2019 at the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 24 days.
She attended John Brown District 75 country school and graduated from Courtland High School in 1951. She was a bookkeeper at an elevator in Stockton, KS. Later she returned to her hometown and was employed by Farmers Union Grain and Supply elevator in Courtland until her son was born.
She was united in marriage to Paul Franklin Freeman at the Scandia Methodist Church in Scandia on September 9, 1961. A son, Brian Dale, and a daughter, Diane Jean, completed their family. She was a devoted homemaker and mother. Beverly fit into the role of farmer’s wife with ease.
Just like Beverly’s parents had been, both Paul and Beverly were active supporters of the community. She looked forward to Courtland High School alumni reunions and community activities like Pancake Day and the monthly birthday/anniversary potluck suppers.
Beverly was a member of the Courtland Covenant Church and enjoyed being a part of the Covenant Women’s group and the Homemakers Club. She enjoyed traveling and they took many bus trips with the Friendship Club. Her love for traveling began with their 25th wedding anniversary trip to Hawaii with Marvin and Marilyn Bergstrom. The four of them were fortunate to take many vacations together over the years.
Beverly had a quiet demeanor and was kind to everyone. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren at school activities and sporting events. She always tried to keep the cookie jar full of chocolate chip cookies for the grandchildren and she made the best homemade ice cream. She taught us there is always room for dessert!
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 58 years and great grandson Cayden Michael Dunstan.
She will be forever remembered by son Brian and wife Diane of Courtland, KS, daughter Diane Hobson and husband Ryan of Chatham, IL, Grandchildren: Joshua Hobson of Courtland, KS, Brandon Hobson of Normal, IL, Crystal Dunstan and husband Earl of Scandia, KS, Craig Henderson of Courtland, KS, Sharla Henderson of Wichita, KS, Heather Huber of Salina, KS, and Travis Huber of Manhattan, KS, and her great grandchildren: Aubrey and Paisley Dunstan, Kash and Clay Henderson.
Memorials are suggested to the Courtland Covenant Church or the Pike Valley Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
