Amy Marie (Novotny) Morehead was born on October 28, 1932, near Narka, Kansas, to Arnold Frank and Bessie A. (Fiala) Novotny, and she passed away on September 18, 2019, at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 21 days.
Amy grew up on the farm and attended Narka schools, graduating from Narka High School in 1950. On December 1st, 1953, she married George A. Morehead at the Methodist Parsonage in Belleville, Kansas. To this union of 65 years, five children were born, Randy, Debra, Kevin, Sharon, and Scott.
Amy called Belleville her home for most of her life, and worked as a cook at the Republic County Hospital. She was a member of the Needlecraft Club (Women of the Rock Island Railroad) and a member of the Belleville Methodist Ladies. Amy is definitely known for her smile, big hugs, and of course, her good cooking (kolaches/pies), she would always please everyone with their favorites.
Amy is preceded in death by her parents, sister Norma Morley, and son, Randall “Randy” Morehead.
She will be forever remembered by her husband, George, daughter Debra Sue Hiatt and her husband Steve of Superior, Nebraska; son Kevin George Morehead of Manhattan, Kansas; daughter Sharon Marie Morehead of Merriam, Kansas, and son Scott Allen Morehead and his wife Shelley of Andover, Kansas. Amy is also survived by her grandchildren, Megan McMeen and her husband Jerry, Derek Hiatt and his wife Sharmayn, Mack Morehead, Addison Childs and her husband Bryce; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Noelle, Neah and Nadia McMeen, and Adley, Kira, Kaelan and Leax Hiatt; brother Paul Novotny and his wife Carol of Bozeman, Montana; sister Lorene Koukol of Wilber, Nebraska, brother Jim Novotny of Belleville, Kansas, and daughter-in-law Debbie Morehead, El Dorado, Kansas.
Cremation was chosen, there will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, September 28th, 2019, at 1:00 pm, at the First United Methodist Church in Belleville, with Reverend Sang Hak Lee and Pastor Natalie Faust officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on the day of the service. Private family inurnment will follow the service at the Belleville City Cemetery.
Memorials are requested to the Brodstone Memorial Hospital Chemotherapy Project, and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home of Belleville assisted the Morehead family with these arrangements.
