Alma Skocny

DIRECT CREMATION WAS CHOSEN. FRIENDS MAY SIGN THE REGISTER BOOK TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY.

Alma Louise Skocny (Kalivoda), 85, Cuba Kansas, died Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Sunset Home in Concordia, Kansas.  She was born December 19, 1929, east of Agenda, daughter of Joe and Minnie (Hyland) Kalivoda.  She worked at MC Industries and her and husband owned and operated the Mustang Inn Cafe in Cuba, KS for many years, people from all over loved her Kolaches. She was a 50 year member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Cuba, Kansas.  On August 21, 1946 she was united in marriage to Frank Skocny.  After 52 years of marriage he preceded her in death August 23, 1998, also grandson Christopher Hebert, her parents, brothers: Roland Kalivoda, Marlin Kalivoda, and sisters Lela Mae Frey, Bonnie Huncovsky, and Donna Minard.  She will be forever remembered by her nine children: Renus and Donna Strait, Tabor, SD, Sherry and Jim Persinger, Harlingen, TX, Connie Dutton and Steve, Havanna, IL, Paula and Tom Akin, Glendale, AZ, Martin and Nikki Skocny, Valley Center, KS, Randy and Carolyn Skocny, Steven and Rae Skocny, all of Cuba, KS,  Jacky and Gary Jeardoe, Concordia, KS, Denise and Andy Torrey, Axtell, KS; 31 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Alma’s wishes were for cremation services. A graveside service and inurnment for family and friends will be held 11:00am Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Hawks Cemetery east of Cuba, Kansas. Family will be hosting a luncheon in Alma’s memory at the Legion Hall, Cuba provided by the Auxiliary. Memorials may be made to Cuba Legion Auxiliary or Meadowlark Hospice. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, assisted the Skocny family with these arrangements.
